Twitter, Junktweets are the Death Blow
Advertising and Twitter is like adding Coke to premium Puerto Rico Rum. It can be done, but should it be…
I have been using Twitter for quite awhile and have enjoyed using it. In the beginning it was fun, and informative. Of late, I have noticed that more and more of the tweets and associated links are going to scummy commercial sites, or soft porn sites. One of drawbacks of 140 character limit is that you have to rely on the author to provide a link to follow up information.
Twitter needs to get control of this situation before it goes down in flames. Most if not all traditional media as well as new media will differentiate between entertainment/news content and advertising content. This needs to be enforced on Twitter. Just as with Blogger’s and now being required to be transparent in their product reviews and disclosing whether they are being compensated for their reviews, tweets should also be held to the same standards.
Junktweets as I call them need to be identified, maybe #ad or some such identifier so the users now know who to quit following. New communication development need to take this into consideration such a Google Wave and FireFox Raindrop.
Well, Im off to get rid of some of the Junktweeters I seem to be following.
