Bad JuJu From The RIAA/MPAA

power_symbol1 The office of the Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator (a new post under the Obama administration) asked for comments as it puts together its “Joint Strategic Plan” for intellectual property enforcement. Public comments are also welcome.

  • Spyware on your computer that detects and deletes infringing materials
  • Mandatory censorware on all Internet connections to interdict transfers of infringing material.
  • Border searches of personal media players, laptops, and thumb drives.
  • International bullying to force other countries to implement the same policies.
  • Free copyright enforcement provided by Federal Agencies (FBI, Homeland Security)

It sounds so ridiculous that when I first read it, I thought it was a joke.  This is no joke, and left to their own devices these organizations want to start legislating law. Its time for Geeks to unite and tell DC that this is unacceptable.

Content Suggestion From Molly Wood: Tell her no intellectual property legislation is complete without explicitly defined legal exceptions for personal fair use of your property, including ripping CDsand DVDs, limited personal sharing of music, movies, and other digital property, and protections for device and network innovations. Tell her ISPs aren’t cops, and we’d rather have our cops solving murders and stopping terrorist attacks than checking MP3s at the borders and securing movie theaters on release day.
